Silvia Alves Fernandes, a professor of sociology at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Florida’s Center for Latin American Studies, where she is conducting comparative research on Catholicism and youth in Brazil and the U.S.
