Randall Balmer

Randall Balmer, Mandel Family Professor in the Arts & Sciences at Dartmouth College, is the author of a dozen books, including most recently Bad Faith: Race and the Rise of the Often used interchangeably with Christian Right, but also can describe broader conservative religious coalitions that are not limited to Christians. Can include right-wing Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Mormons, and members of the Unification Church of Sun Myung Moon. Learn more (Eerdmans, 2021). The notorious Alliance Defense Fund, which seeks to abrogate the establishment clause of the First Amendment, has recruited an evangelical minister to endorse a candidate for governor from the pulpit in hopes of taking his case all the way to the Supreme Court. Such advocacy, of course, violates the Johnson Amendment, which prohibits any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization from making political endorsements.
